Unit 5 Classifying Plants
5.1 The Important Of Classifying Plants
Plants can be classify based on their characteristics
It help us to identify and study plants
5.2 Type of Stem
Stems can be woody and non-woody
Woody stem is thick and covered with bark. Tree, Shrub, Woody Vine
Non-woody stems are not covered with bark. Usually green and soft. Grass, herb, non woody vine
Trees can be identify from its crown. Rounded (willow tree), umbrella-shaped (acacia tree), or cone-shaped (pine tree).
Shrubs have few stem that grow from ground. Rose plant, Hibiscus plant
Rice, Wheat, and Barley are some examples of grasses.
Some examples of Herbs are Iris and Buttercup.
Vine can be woody and non-woody. The stems of vine do not provide support which make them cannot grow upright. Liana is the example of woody vine, while morning glory is the example of non-woody vine.
5.3 Flowering and Non-flowering plants
Flowering plants are plants that produce flower. Most plants are flowering plants. Some plants only flowering on certain time such poppy plant that flowering on summer.
Non-flowering plants are plant that do not produce flower. For example ferns and mosses.
Conifers such as Pine Tree are plants that produce cones instead of flowers. The cones can be found on the branches
5.4 Seed-producing and Spore-Producing
Seed producing plants are plants that grow from a seed. It can be different into fruits with many seeds (papaya, melon) or fruits with one seed (lychees, mango). The main parts of seed are the seed coat, embryo, and seed leaves.
Non-flowering plants grow from a spores. It usually located on spore bags on the underside of the leaf. 
5.5 Fruit-Bearing Plants And Non-Fruit-Bearing Plants
Fruit bearing plants are plants that develop flower into fruit. The fruit can be flashy (oranges, tomatoes, grapes) or dry (hazelnuts, pees, and dandelion). The fruit flower can develop into a single fruit (pear), tiny fruit cluster (strawberry), or bigger fruit (mulberry)
Non flowering plant do not develop fruits.
5.6 Useful And Harmful Plants
Useful plants: give us food, make a product.

Harmful plants:  make us sick
